Our 2026 Sustainability Goals
Co-Founder, Amelia Basile, strives for sustainability. She is a Ramapo Sustainability major and strives for 70% of all items to be purchased second hand. Why? Because, every business contributes to the preservation of future recourses. The Knitty Kitty pays artists a far wage of 70% commission earnings on sales through our store front. 50% of all decoration and business supplies are second hand
From to picture frames, to glass doors, we support Habitat for Humanity, local thrift shops, and second hand local sellers to build and replace items in our space!

Pine pellet cat litter
Clay cat litter has unethical mining practices and unsustainable materials. Pine pellet litter is sourced responsibly from renewable resources, has a quick biodegradable time, and takes less energy to source. All but a couple of our litter boxes use pine pellets.

Fair artist wages
Our local artist and small business products displayed in our store front are paid fairly and above average with over 70% of MSRP sale earnings. We also do not charge our artists fees for displaying.

Economic & community support
Every month, we collaborate with a local small business to host an event in our cat lounge. This allows our local small business to gain more exposer and build a strong social community.

Stray cat regulation
We partner with Wildflowers TNR, an organization that strives to reducing the reproduction of community cats, and gets friendly cats and kittens off the streets and in loving homes. Cats are invasive species and keeping their population in check and inside allows for native species (and cats) to thrive!

Repurposed art materials
Our cat lounge holds yarn, art tools, crafting books, and more available for customers to use freely. Yarn is available to take home if you are working on a project!
